Skills for the Assessment and De-escalation of Mentally Ill Persons

with Kevin St. Jacques, PsyD, LMHC from St Jacques Consulting Group, LLC

This training is designed for individuals, who encounter people who are in a state of anger or are experiencing symptoms of mental illness.  The training will discuss the aggression cycle, who is likely to use anger to get their needs met, and how to de-escalate the angry person.  We will also discuss mental health behaviours commonly encountered in the community and learn how to effectively de-escalate them.  Personality disorders will be covered with an emphasis on those most likely to be seen by counselors and support staff.  We will discuss strategies to successfully de-escalate these personalities when they are in crisis.
