CCER's VR Projects and Services team can train staff on the Foundations of Rehab. Choose from the list of topics below, combine topics, or propose a new training topic that will help you achieve your organizations' training goals.

Vocational Assessment

An overview of the use of assessments for diagnostic and intervention planning purposes relevant to educational, career, personal, and social development in rehabilitation counseling. Includes methods of assessment for individuals with disabilities, including testing instruments, individual accommodations, environmental modification, and interpretation of results. Emphasis on a collaborative, client-centered approach to assessment.

Community Resources

Discussion on the importance of community resources in VR, inclduing community resource types that are critical for consumer success, a holistic approach, increasing VR efficiency, and upholding the autonomy of the VR consumer.

Case Management/Caseload Movement

Overview of the techniques and procedures related to individualized case management and caseload management.

Counseling & Guidance (Behavior Changes/Theories/Approaches)

Overview of select counseling theories and their application to people with disabilities.

Assistive Technology

Overview of current assistive technology, including terminology, assessment methods, and resources for consumers seeking assistive technology and/or training. 

Foundations for Rehabilitation

An overview of the principles and practicies of rehabilitation counseling, including history, philosophy, ethics, legislative influences, organizational structures, and service-delivery models.

Ethical Considerations

Identify, describe, and apply ethical principles of rehabilitation counseling and ethical decision-making models.

Career Explorations

Explore, compare, and contrast a variety of reputable career exploration tools and activities.

Job Development

Introduction and explanation of job development, including essential knowledge, skills, abilities, and steps for success

Labor Market/Business Engagement

Overview of occupational information, labor market trends, and meaningful employment with a career focus. Includes job analysis and specific employment techniques, and relevant legislation.

Communication Strategies

An overview of effective communication strategies to assist in navigating hard or difficult discussions, including the common human characteristics that can be generated when others do not feel heard or understood especially when behavior change is being ask of them. Incorporates the perspective whether individual and/or team impacts related to moving conversations along with respect and high direction.  

Motivational Interviewing (MI)

MI is an evidence-based style of communication that helps a person identify how ready they are to make a change, clarify their reasons for or against making a change, and planning a change that aligns with their values when they are ready. CCER can provide training on all aspects of MI and for all skill-levels, from an introduction to advanced skill-building, including preparation for MINT certification. Highly customizable! 

Employment Rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA Title I)

Focus on Title I of the ADA, the employment title, with job seeker or employee as the learner. Includes a brief overview of the ADA and clarification of employers that are subject to the law, employers that are not subject to this law, rights of the job seeker or employee (including requesting reasonable accommodation), enforcement steps, and resources. 

Job Coaching

Define job coaching and describe successful approaches and activities, as well as helpful resources.

Accessible Documents

Follow-along as the instructor demonstrates steps for fixing common accessibility errors. Learn how to make all of your documents accessible for readers with low vision and assistive technology users. Choose your document type: Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Portable Document Format (PDF).
